Letterpress typeface

metal type ready for setting

We’re passionate about all things typography, printing techniques and film, so when these passions combine in the form of documentaries about letterpress we get very excited
With the huge revival of letterpress printing, two documentaries about letterpress and typography are screening at ACMI as part of the sixth Character event and the 2010 State of Design Festival – the films are presented in partnership with the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) and Melbourne based Letterbox.

TypeFace – Director: Justine Nagan (USA) 60 mins *Premiere screening
Typeface
focuses on a rural Midwestern museum / print shop where international artists meet craftsmen and combine modern design and traditional technique.

Typeface screens at ACMI on Saturday, 24th July between 4-6pm. Tickets are $8, and can be booked online.

Also on the bill for Character is Proceed and Be Bold! (also a *Premiere), screening on Friday the 30th July at RMIT. The screening is free, so it’s first in best ‘letter pressed’.

Thanks to Carolyn from Idlewild Press for the heads up.
